Hot pressing

During hot pressing, SMC, which is developed and produced in-house, is processed. The thus manufactured products are characterised by a high UV-resistance, are strong and are highly resistant to extreme temperatures and chemical substances.

VDL Wientjes Emmen possesses a large number of hydraulic presses from 1.500 kN up to 40.000 kN. The maximum mould dimension is 3000 x 2000 mm. For long products the maximum mould dimension is 6000 x 1200 mm. The presses are able to use hydraylic cores in complex moulds. Our R&D department would like to advise you on which machine we can manufacture your product.

Pressing process
The high-quality steel compression moulds are covered with SMC according to a carefully defined inlay pattern. After closing the mould, the mould cavity is completely filled through the high temperature and moulding pressure. At the same time a polymerisation process takes place, as a result of which the product hardens in its final shape. Components, such as inserts, can be included prior to closing the mould. To obtain an accurate thickness in the product, the presses have parallel controls. For the final processing of products robots using 6 axes are present. Examples are drilling of specific holes or milling of grooves.

In house development
As a result of its in-house development, production and ripening of SMC and its extensive knowledge of processing SMC, VDL Wientjes Emmen is the ideal partner when it comes to using SMC for your products. VDL Wientjes Emmen has developed a low pressure SMC whereby it is possible to press on aluminium moulds which means lower investments costs. Therefore there is also profit of the good properties of SMC in case of smaller production series.
